Meet Mrs. Lee
Greetings Tappan Middle School Community,
My name is Rebecca Lee, and it is an honor
and a pleasure to introduce myself to you as an English/language arts (ELA) teacher at Tappan Middle School. I grew up in Michigan and have settled in Livonia with my husband and our seven-year-old son. I am a proud graduate of Alma College (Go Scots!), where I graduated with my bachelor's degree in elementary education, with a focus on English and language arts. My master's degree is in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University, with an emphasis in Teacher Leadership. I am looking forward to collaborating with you to ensure a successful year for our students at Tappan.
Growing up as the daughter of an educator, I knew that I wanted to become a teacher from a very early age. My journey in education (officially) began with my first classroom nearly 16 years ago. I taught 5th grade in East Detroit Public Schools, and while there, I was also given the opportunity to teach 6th grade language arts and 2nd grade self-contained. After nearly three years with the district, I relocated to the Tampa (Florida) area to teach both 6th and 7th grade language arts with Pasco County Schools. While in Florida, I had the opportunity to work with gifted and talented students, run a successful musical theater elective, and teach an after school enrichment program. After four wonderful years with the Pasco County, I again relocated, but this time, it was back to Michigan. My husband (who now works for Oakland Schools ISD) had been accepted into the University of Michigan’s doctoral program in teacher education, and as a result, we decided to move to Ann Arbor in 2011. Once I moved back to Michigan, I secured employment with National Heritage Academies, and I opened South Canton Scholars as a 6th grade teacher. At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, I said my goodbyes to South Canton and began my journey as a dean of students at Plymouth Scholars. It was only after becoming an administrator that I fully realized how much loved teaching, and I, therefore, decided to come back to the classroom. I am excited and honored to be a member of the Tappan school community as your ELA teacher.
This year is going to be packed with rigorous learning, fun activities, and collaboration. Students in my class will learn to greater independence in their reading and writing.
While the 2020/2021 school year will look a little different, I look forward to meeting my new students, and the families of Tappan. It is going to be a wonderful school year!
Thank you and cheers,
Mrs. Lee
