Happy Monday! This week we will have four core days of instruction and an early release on Wednesday. Students will be working with the 12 Power Words to break down informational texts. They will also be selecting their next novel for their book projects. 6th grade will be working from the adventure genre, and 7th grade with mystery. Thank you and have a wonderful first week. It was a nice success and we hope you found it worthwhile. A lot of teachers seemed to enjoy shopping just as much as the kids. The pop up shop in the media center is all packed up, but you can continue to shop and raise money for the Tappan Media Center by shopping the online Usborne Book Fair. Any money spent online will also help the Media Center get money to buy new books. Happy Tuesday! This week will mark the end of our unit on poetry. 6th graders will be finalizing their poetry books while my 7th graders will write a theme analysis this week. Next week we will be moving into two new units and students will receive information on their next book projects. 6th graders will be working on adventure novels, and 7th grade on mystery. If a student beings money during ELA class they will be given a pass to look through the book fair. 7th grade Language Arts, Hour 7 Current Course Objectives: Poetry CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.7.4 Students can determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of rhymes and other repetitions of sounds (e.g., alliteration) on a specific verse or stanza of a poem or section of a story or drama. Happy Monday! Last week was definitely an interesting one with not one but two snow days off from school. We will continue our journey into poetry this week and wrap up our unit next week. All students will be reading, analyzing, and writing poetry over the next few weeks. Please look in planners for updates to homework mentioned in the weekly emails. Feb. 12--NAAPID AT TAPPAN Please join Tappan on Monday, February 12 as we take part in National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID). There will be a luncheon for parents from 11:30am-1:00pm and during this time parents will have a speaker, Tori Williams, an admissions officer from the University of Michigan. After the luncheon, we encourage parents to stop in their child’s classroom and see some of the wonderful instruction that takes place at Tappan Middle School. Thank you and hope to see you there!
