Hello Tappan Families,
Welcome back from what I hope was a wonderful and restful break. I would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of you. It is an honor and a privilege to work with your children in ELA each day. They are smart, kind, courageous, and creative. I look forward to the rest of our school year and can’t wait to see all of their growth. Thank you for your support and partnership in helping each student to succeed. Please see below for your weekly English Language Arts email. Welcome to 8th Grade English Language Arts! This year we will cover the power standards that are a subset of the learning standards that Ann Arbor Public Schools has determined to be the highest priority or most important for students to learn. As a class we will grow in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. We will do this in a way that meets the needs of all students no matter their learning level. During the course of the year students will be reading literature in the form of novels, plays, short stories, and poetry, partaking in classroom discussions, and presenting creative projects. 8th Grade English Language Arts Units that we will cover this year:

I am looking forward to a challenging, informative, and enjoyable year. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Respectfully, Mrs. Rebecca Lee Tappan Middle School 6th and 8th Grade English Language Arts [email protected] Chaos and Order Muppets--See you soon! Hello 8th Graders,
It has been a wonderful year and I thank you all for being in my 8th grade ELA class. Thank you for the laughter, the conversations, and hard work. Remember our lesson on the Muppets--we are all a little bit of Order and a little bit of Chaos. It is how we use our traits that help us to find the most success in life. Jim Henson once said, "My hope still is to leave the world a bit better than when I got here." Through your chaos and your order, you will leave Tappan a better place. Thank you for being here. This week we will wrap up with a letter writing campaign on The Holocaust, watch Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and celebrate with a promotion party on Wednesday. Please encourage your child to look at their PowerSchool account on a regular basis. Students in both grades will be finishing the year strong and it is not fun having to make up missed work on beautiful spring days. Weather reminder: Dress in layers. Our ELA classroom runs cool in the morning and warm to uncomfortable in the afternoon. Water bottles are welcome. Juice, soda, and fruity drinks are not welcome.
